Movie:The Beautiful Truth
Garrett, an Alaskan boy, was home-schooled by his father. His first assignment was to study a controversial book written by Dr. Max Gerson. Written over 50 years ago, Dr. Gerson found that diet could, and did, cure cancer. Controversial at the time (and even today), Garrett took on the challenge of researching this amazing therapy, which drew the interest of his neighbors in the small Alaskan community.
With the help of Dr. Gerson’s daughter, Charlotte Gerson, and grandson, Howard Strauss, they gave him the ammunition needed to go in search for the truth – a truth that would affect not only him, but his entire Alaskan village – all of whom wanted to know if these claims were true.
After a number of cancer patients, who were diagnosed as terminal, shared their stories and their medical records with Garrett, it became abundantly clear that, contrary to the disinformation campaign spear-headed by the multi-billion dollar medical and pharmaceutical industry, a cure for virtually all cancers and chronic diseases does exist – and has existed for over 80 years!
Vitamin B12 deficiency linked to birth defects
Women with low levels of vitamin B12 have up to five times the normal risk of having a baby with a major birth defect, new research shows.
Vegans and women who eat little or no meat, fish, eggs, milk or cheese are at the highest risk, as are women with stomach or intestinal problems, including inflammatory bowel disease, that keep them from absorbing enough B12.
Study: Honey can kill superbugs
Associate Professor Dee Carter, from Sydney University's School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences said: "Our research is the first to clearly show that these honey-based products could in many cases replace antibiotic creams on wounds and equipment such as catheters. Using honey as an intermediate treatment could also prolong the life of antibiotics."
"Most bacteria that cause infections in hospitals are resistant to at least one antibiotic, and there is an urgent need for new ways to treat and control surface infections."
Tryptophan deficiency may underlie quinine side effects
Researchers have found that the anti-malarial drug quinine can block a cell's ability to take up the essential amino acid tryptophan, a discovery that may explain many of the adverse side-effects associated with quinine. Once confirmed, these findings would suggest that dietary tryptophan supplements could be a simple and inexpensive way to improve the performance of this important drug.
The Dangers of Blood Transfusion: Reconsidering Needless Surgeries
Researchers at the University of Michigan studied 9218 persons aged 65 or older who had coronary bypass surgery. They learned that patients who had received blood transfusions were five times more likely to die2 within 100 days of the surgery than patients who were not transfused. More than 66% of the men and 88% of the women having this operation receive blood transfusions. Women had a nine-percent death rate within 100 days of this operation, but only six percent of men die in the same time interval. The primary cause for death in these bypass patients is infection at a site unrelated to the operative procedure.
The odds on developing an infection were three times higher in bypass patients who had received a blood transfusion when compared to patients who were not transfused during the surgery. The more units of blood transfused, the greater the risk of infection.
NEW ARTCHITECTURE IN MODERN MEDICINE
So, there is no such thing as safe drugs, only doses deemed "safe" and their use is based on their benefit/risk profile unlike non-toxic preparations or formulations that are made from edible substances. It is not surprising therefore, that thousands of patients worldwide suffer adverse drug reactions, enough in numbers to create a specialist post-graduate training in this field. Many of such adverse reactions are due to or related to the damage of adhesion molecules and the healing approach lies in a cocktail of natural antioxidants not more drugs. Drugs cannot perform biological repair of cell membranes or promote genetic repair or promote the production of repair proteins or elevate the blood antioxidant levels in the patient.
The Powers of the Codex Alimentarius Commission
The propaganda may be trying to propagate that Codex Alimentarius is all about “consumer protection” but looking at its stated purposes it is obvious that it wants to exert itself whether by control of some form or through guidelines to extend its tentacles to ensure fair trade and practices in the food trade as well as to promote coordination of all food standards and includes whether your papadams must be crispy or soft. Codex is set to govern every aspect and standard of every food! Next they may want to create guidelines on curries and how curries might be spiced.
Is an FDA-Sanctioned Monopoly for Weight Loss Supplements in the Wings?
GlaxoSmithKline has also asked the FDA to create a monopoly for them on all weight loss supplements. If the FDA grants Glaxo’s request, the only weight loss aid that will be left for you to use is one made by Glaxo, which is now being investigated for causing liver damage—and this is after it went through the FDA’s drug approval process!
Glaxo wants the FDA to grant it a monopoly by ruling that any weight loss claim is a disease claim. Since supplements cannot make disease claims that would eliminate all supplement competition at a stroke. Since there are no other approved drugs for weight loss, there wouldn’t even be drug competition.
Three-acre organic farm appears in the middle of New York Harbor
Governors Island is an island in New York Harbor not far from the Brooklyn waterfront. It was an army base for almost two hundred years and then a Coast Guard base for a few decades after that. It was decomissioned in 2001 and since that time various redevelopment plans have been proposed for it. But this is the best plan yet.
The organic three-acre farm, one of a handful of commercial organic farms within the five boroughs, is a collaboration between the corporation and a Brooklyn nonprofit group called Added Value, which teaches teenagers about sustainable and local food by training them to work on urban farms.
Campaign to defend Poland's rich natural traditions
Countries like Poland and others in Eastern Europe spent decades escaping from repressive regimes and were seduced into joining the European Union with promises of democratic freedom and technological advancement. In less than five years since their accession to the EU, those promises now seem hollow. Sovereignty has virtually been lost and been replaced by an authoritarian unelected bureaucracy based in Brussels, whilst the agricultural economy, which was based on diverse small scale farming communities, is increasingly being replaced with large scale agri-business, typified by the arrival in Poland of the US pork-giant Smithfield Foods.
Oral THC Improves Symptoms Of Schizophrenia
Daily administration of oral synthetic THC significantly improves symptoms of schizophrenia, according to the findings of an open-label case series published this month in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
“These two decisions confirm that censorship reigns supreme in the Obama FDA. Brazenly, the Agency did not even cite, let alone apply, the standard of First Amendment review Judge Gladys Kessler commanded FDA to use in Whitaker v. Thompson I. Instead, FDA engaged in political censorship of scientific speech, discounting supporting evidence based on contrived arguments and exaggerating nonsupporting evidence to be the equal of contradictory evidence, which it was not. The federal courts mandated that FDA adopt the qualified health claims regime to remove FDA from the unconstitutional business of censoring speech concerning the potential of nutrients to affect disease risk. FDA has flouted that direction, has effectively reabsorbed the qualified health into the unqualified health claim regime, and has moved back to constitutionally infirm absolute censorship as its lode-stone for decision. FDA has become a court of star chamber. It views itself as above the law”.
ANH challenges science used to justify mass fluoridation of water supply
While most Europeans aren’t forced to endure fluoride in their tap water, some government authorities, including those of Ireland and the UK, as well as the USA and Australia, think everyone should be mass medicated with fluoride.
The ANH makes the case that mass fluoridation cannot be regarded as an acceptable practice given the health risks, particularly to children. What's more, it's being used as a medicine and no health authority has ever put fluoride through a proper risk/benefit assessment as used for the registration of conventional drugs.
CHEMICALS AND DISEASE CONDITIONS
But the average individual may not know that in 1989 alone, more than 1,000,000,000 pounds of chemicals were released into the ground, contaminating our farmlands and drinking waters. Over 188,000,000 pounds of chemicals were also discharged into surface waters such as lakes and rivers. More than 2,400,000,000 pounds of chemicals were pumped into the air we breathe. A grand total of 5,705,670,380 pounds of chemical pollutants were released into the environment that we eat, breathe, and live in—all in just one year...
FDA Scrutinizes Acetaminophen's Liver Risk
Acetaminophen is the most commonly used painkiller in the country and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will scrutinize its safety record today in the shadow of concerns that people taking too much of it are damaging their livers.
Research has shown that hundreds of Americans each year experience acute liver failure as a result of taking acetaminophen -- widely known under the brand name Tylenol -- and about 100 people die annually from overdosing on the painkiller, either intentionally or unintentionally.
FDA Panel Votes To Ban Percocet, Vicodin
An FDA advisory panel yesterday voted to recommend a ban on the widely-prescribed painkillers Percocet and Vicodin. Percocet (and its kissing cousin Endocet) is actually a combination of Oxycodone, an almost century-old opioid analgesic medication synthesized from opium-derived thebaine, and acetaminophen. Vicodin is a narcotic analgesic product containing hydrocodone, derived from codeine and thebaine, and acetaminophen. The FDA panel was convened to advise the FDA on how to address tens of thousands of cases of liver damage each year connected to patients taking high doses of acetaminophen either in OTC products like Tylenol or in prescription painkillers like Percocet as well as in cold remedies containing acetaminophen.
The report concludes that members of Congress face a disheartening conflict of interest: side with their large campaign donors or back reform measures that have support from the public...
Antibiotics Injected Into Chicken Eggs is Making Canadians Resistant to Meds
Surveillance information from the Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance (CIPARS), which is funded by the public health agency, "strongly indicates that cephalosporin resistance in humans is moving in lockstep with use of the drug in poultry production".
Cephalosporin is not approved for use in chickens or eggs, but it is often "robotically injected" into eggs at chicken hatcheries as a preventative measure to stave off infections, reports the CMAJ. This occurs on an off- or extra-label basis, which means that the drug is being used for unapproved reasons.
Flu Shot Linked to Cancer
Receipt of a flu shot increases the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 53%, follicular lymphoma by 98% percent, and diffuse large B cell lymphoma by 88%.
It is unclear whether receiving regular annual flu shots under the CDC’s recommended schedule further compounds the risk of cancer over a single dose influenza jab.
Last month, other research was released showing that children who get the flu vaccine are three times more likely to be hospitalized for the flu. Children with asthma are even more likely to be hospitalized when they are vaccinated.
Journalist Files Charges against WHO and UN for Bioterrorism
In her charges, Burgermeister presents evidence of acts of bioterrorism that is in violation of U.S. law by a group operating within the U.S. under the direction of international bankers who control the Federal Reserve, as well as WHO, UN and NATO. This bioterrorism is for the purpose of carrying out a mass genocide against the U.S. population by use of a genetically engineered flu pandemic virus with the intent of causing death.
SWINE FLU: NEW PANDEMIC OR JUST MAKIN' BACON?
The vaccine industry seems to be trying to imitate the music industry these days. Within our devolving species, as people's brains become more and more saturated with hydrogenateds, they become easier to fool. Today any loud noise is music, in media any loud story is true, and with vaccines, any vaccine is scientific and effective. Doesn't matter that it's impossible to create immunity with a vaccine that is choosing 2 or 3 strains from hundreds, and pretending to confer specific immunity. Doesn't matter that the disease the vaccine is for has never been shown to actually exist. The media says it exists and that the vaccine will work -- that's as discriminating as the American public gets.
The swine flu epidemic: Strong cure, no disease
Everyone knows that HIV causes AIDS, but until about a decade ago no one knew that. We believe that HIV causes AIDS because the doctors tell us it does. It’s gospel. They might amputate the wrong limb, or misdiagnose cervical cancer, or cause 25% of pensioners to be hospitalised through misprescription of drugs, but they couldn’t blunder about a thing like AIDS. Could they? Well, yes they could. The phantom swine flu epidemic of 1976 proves that it is possible. The very same people who gave America the swine flu scare gave the world the AIDS epidemic just five years later...
US: Federal Circuit Reverses Denial of Vaccine Injury Claim
A recent U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit decision reversing the U.S. Court of Federal Claims' denial of a vaccine injury claim highlights the widening gulf between the Federal Circuit and Federal Claims court on vaccine cases.
In the US, vaccine cases are tried in special courts and the tendency of those courts is to uphold vaccine policy of the government, with as little compensation as possible. This one was a "normal" court decision that revised the previous judgement of the special vaccine compensation court.
'During a pandemic, it may be necessary to overrule existing legislation or (individual) human rights. Examples are the enforcement of quarantine (overruling individual freedom of movement), use of privately owned buildings for hospitals, off-license use of drugs, compulsory vaccination or implementation of emergency shifts in essential services. These decisions need a legal framework to ensure transparent assessment and justification of the measures that are being considered, and to ensure coherence with international legislation (International Health Regulations).
There is no forensic evidence showing the H1N1 virus as the direct cause of death in those who have died after contracting the virus (144 to date). The majority of deaths are caused by pre-existing complications and auto-immune deficiencies. Countries with low quality of health have the greatest number of fatal cases. Based on the Center for Disease Control's own guidelines H1N1 related symptoms are virtually indistinguishable from those of the common seasonal flu, and severity is comparable to mild seasonal flu...
Financial Industry Receives 10 Times More Money in 1 year than Poor Countries Receive in 49 Years
The United Nations Millennium Campaign today released an analysis showing that since the inception of aid (overseas development assistance) almost 50 years ago, donor countries have given some $2 trillion in aid. And yet over the past year, $18 trillion has been found globally to bail out banks and other financial institutions. The amount of total aid over the past 49 years represents just eleven percent of the money found for financial institutions in one year.
US Opposition to GMOs Gathers Momentum
Great upheavals may be afoot in the United States, the world’s leader in genetic modification (GM), and biggest producer of GM crops. Within the past several months, doctors have issued a strong statement calling for a moratorium on GM foods on grounds of safety, and scientists have declared GM crops an agronomic failure.
"Given the unsatisfactory situation and the negative attitude towards GMOs of large parts of the population in many member states, time has come to find a new approach to deal with the authorisation and use of GMOs in agriculture," it said. "The legally soundest solution we envisage is a set of minor amendments of relevant EU legislation, which should introduce the right of an individual member state to restrict or prohibit indefinitely the cultivation of authorised GMOs on its territory," said the paper, obtained by Reuters.
Global Rejection of Genetically Engineered Wheat
In light of our existing experience with genetic engineering, and recognizing the global consumer rejection of genetically engineered wheat, we restate our definitive opposition to GE wheat and our commitment to stopping the commercialization of GE traits in our wheat crops. We are committed to working with farmers, civil society groups and Indigenous peoples across the globe as we travel the road towards global food sovereignty.
Video:The Risks of Genetically Modified Foods The Health Dangers of Genetically Engineered Foods and their Cover-up
A talk by Jeffrey M. Smith, author of the book Seeds of Deception
The presentation was organized by The Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods. It is presented here by BrasscheckTV.com as a series of six 10-minute videos.
Vitamins / minerals reduce cancer risk, may lengthen life & prevent bone loss
Why are antioxidants and other essential nutrients, in food supplement form, being targeted and restricted by regulators? Why are we being told there are safety issues in consuming more beta carotene daily than that contained in one carrot, or more selenium daily than that contained in more than one third of a brazil nut, while such foods may be eaten in unrestricted quantities?
It looks very much as though it is less about the safety of these nutrients, and more about the profits of big food and pharma corporations. Surely we should be able to trust that food safety authorities such as EFSA and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are unbiased and independent?
Well, personally I believe that those 'authorities' are deeply in the pockets of big food and pharma corporations and their lobbyists ... that they have been fed - together with the cash, the paid weekend trips and the nice words - a crock of you-know-what about what is healthy and what isn't...
Green tea 'slows prostate cancer'
Green tea has been linked to a positive effect on a wide range of conditions, including heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
The research, in the US journal Cancer Prevention Research, found a significant fall in certain markers which indicate cancer development.
Weekly curry 'may fight dementia'
The key ingredient [in curry powder] is curcumin, a component of the spice turmeric. Curcumin appears to prevent the spread of amyloid protein plaques - thought to cause dementia - in the brain.
"You can modify a mouse so that at about 12 months its brain is riddled with plaques. If you feed this rat a curcumin-rich diet it dissolves these plaques. The same diet prevented younger mice from forming new plaques."
'However, we know that some people consider they react badly to consuming this sweetener so we think it is important to increase our knowledge about what is happening.’
The pilot study will start next month and will be used to inform the design and feasibility of a proposed study led by the European Food Safety Authority.
If you have had a bad reaction to consuming aspartame, please do leave a comment at the article as a first step...
The FDA's Cheerios Charade
A June 21 editorial in the Washington Times made the point that it was the accuracy of claim placed on the side of the Cheerios box promoting the cereal’s cholesterol-lowering properties that did it in, not false statements or misrepresentation. Apparently, the term “coronary heart disease” was way too specific for tender eyes at the FDA, as opposed to plain vanilla “heart disease,” and thus General Mills, Inc. was slapped with a mandate to obtain an approved drug application in order to market Cheerios legally.
Why are you so sick?
After generations of trying unsuccessfully to remove bacteria, mold, weeds, insects, arachnids, rodents and many other pest problems from our homes, buildings, yards, pets, fields, orchards, and groves; we still are continuing to only use/misuse many different volatile pesticide POISONS to try to take care of these pest problems. Now, these dangerous pesticides have polluted our soil, food and every living thing including your body. Pesticide POISONS have been proven to increase the risk of different cancers, fatigue and muscle weakness along with endocrine disturbances, cognitive dysfunction, autism, chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia, etc.. It now costs over 700 billion dollars per year to try to "treat" environmentally caused diseases just in the United States and Canada.
More Evidence Links Pesticides to Parkinson's
French researchers found that among nearly 800 adults with and without Parkinson's, agricultural workers exposed to pesticides -- including insecticides, weed killers and fungicides -- were at greater risk of the disease.
The risk climbed in tandem with the amount of time a worker was exposed, strengthening the case for a cause-effect relationship, according to the researchers.
Weed killer kills human cells - Study intensifies debate over 'inert' ingredients
Until now, most health studies have focused on the safety of glyphosate, rather than the mixture of ingredients found in Roundup. But in the new study, scientists found that Roundup’s inert ingredients amplified the toxic effect on human cells—even at concentrations much more diluted than those used on farms and lawns.
One specific inert ingredient, polyethoxylated tallowamine, or POEA, was more deadly to human embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells than the herbicide itself – a finding the researchers call "astonishing."
Video:Money Talks: Profits Before Patient Safety
The 50-minute documentary this video is an excerpt from was created to give an in-depth, academic perspective on the questionable marketing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry, and features the commentary of investigative journalists and medical professionals including Dr. John Abramson, author of Overdosed America, and Prescription Access Litigation Project Director, Alex Sugerman-Brozan. Other notable interviewees include Dr. Bob Goodman of Columbia University, founder of the 'No Free Lunch' program, and Dr. Jerome Hoffman of UCLA Medical School.
Painkiller ban 'has cut suicides'
A gradual phase-out of co-proxamol led to 350 fewer suicides and accidental deaths in England and Wales, a study in the British Medical Journal reports.
Kids need care, not pills, ex-foster children tell panel
Mez Pierre, 22, and Kimberly Foster, 25, both from Broward County, told the group that mental health drugs -- already at the center of the investigation of Gabriel Myers's tragic death -- aren't the answer for many foster youth. Children need caring adults who will look at the causes of their difficult behavior, they said -- not simply write prescriptions in an attempt to control it.
Medtronic Paid Surgeon Accused Of Falsifying Study Nearly $800,000
Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. says it paid nearly $800,000 over the past three years to a former Army surgeon accused of fabricating a study that reported positive results for one of the company's key spine products.
Some of the consulting payments occurred during the time that the surgeon, Timothy R. Kuklo, was shopping his favorable study of Medtronic's Infuse bone-graft product to medical journals. The paper, ultimately published last August in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, reported advantages in healing the legs of injured soldiers when Infuse was used.
The Army has said that the study is based on "falsified information" and that Dr. Kuklo forged the signatures of purported co-authors.
Playing Russian Roulette in the Laboratory - Can You Really Trust HIV Testing?
The authors, Drs. Papadopulos- Eleopulos, Turner, and Papadimitriou, demonstrate that even though we have been told that we can depend on the accuracy of these "AIDS tests," in fact we cannot. They discuss the tests and how they came to be accepted as virtually unquestioned proof that a person is infected with HIV. They also critique these tests on several different grounds: 1) the tests are not specific, 2) there is no standard way of interpreting them, and 3) the results are not reproducible. In order for an antibody test to be scientifically valid, it must meet these three criteria, and these three in turn must be validated by an independant means, namely the "gold standard".
AIDS in Africa: A field experience in Tanzania
For two years, in line with what he had learnt at the IMTA [Antwerp Institute of Tropical Medicine], Philippe continues to look upon the health situation as the consequence of an epidemic attributable to a new virus – HIV – and he decides to do some testing.
What he first notices is that the children, whether HIV-positive or negative, have exactly equal chances of being restored to health, provided they receive proper nourishment and care. What he also notices is that HIV-positive subjects, when tested following a bout of malaria, for instance, can be HIV-negative six months later.
On the occasion of the eight international congress on AIDS in Amsterdam, in July 1992, he makes mention of an unexpected observation: tests carried out on his own staff of 149 persons revealed that only 5.4 % were HIV-positive!
Could Doctors Go the Way of Record Companies?
Those of us who follow health care may be overlooking the big picture. Most of the profound (and sometimes disruptive) changes of the last half century -- computers, the Internet, social networks -- weren't initiated by the political process. They arose at the intersection of technology, economics, and mass social change. So here's something to think about: Could the medical profession go the way of the record industry?
Open source medicine and p2p (in this case patient to patient) sharing of health related information is a distinct possibility with the internet at our disposal. No longer is the suppression of alternative treatment modalities by recourse to prosecution and biased, corrupted public media as easy as it once was. The flaws of pharmaceutical medicine are becoming more obvious, and we're less inclined to follow authority just for the sake of it. Opening medicine to the contribution of all, to shared knowledge, will indeed transform our way of looking at health and illness.
A red-wine polyphenol demonstrates significant health benefits
Red wine contains a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including flavonols, monomeric and polymeric flavan-3-ols, highly colored anthocyanins, as well as phenolic acids and the stilbene polyphenol, resveratrol. Brown said that some of these compounds, particularly resveratrol, appear to have health benefits.
"The breadth of benefits is remarkable - cancer prevention, protection of the heart and brain from damage, reducing age-related diseases such as inflammation, reversing diabetes and obesity, and many more," said Brown. "It has long been a question as to how such a simple compound could have these effects but now the puzzle is becoming clearer with the discovery of the pathways, especially the sirtuins, a family of enzymes that regulate the production of cellular components by the nucleus. 'Is resveratrol the only compound with these properties?' This would seem unlikely, with similar effects reported for other components of wine and for other natural products such as curcumin. However, we know much more about resveratrol relative to these other compounds."
Cannabis Compound Stops Spread of Breast Cancer: Medical Research Study
(November 2007): A team of researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute say cannabis compound CBD (cannabidiol) could provide a non-toxic alternative to chemotherapy for cancer treatments. Previous research has shown the compound can block human brain cancers, and recent lab experiments have shown it may be able to do the same for breast cancer.
This begs the question why, with a perfectly good natural healing compound readily available, we insist on poisoning those who develop cancer with toxic chemicals. Think about it.
Fresh lemon grass fields in Israel become mecca for cancer patients
At first, Benny Zabidov, an Israeli agriculturalist who grows greenhouses full of lush spices on a pastoral farm in Kfar Yedidya in the Sharon region, couldn't understand why so many cancer patients from around the country were showing up on his doorstep asking for fresh lemon grass.
It turned out that their doctors had sent them.
"They had been told to drink eight glasses of hot water with fresh lemon grass steeped in it on the days that they went for their radiation and chemotherapy treatments..."
Calcium -- the secret to honeybees' memory
Long-term memory formation in honeybees is instigated by a calcium ion cascade. Researchers writing in the open access journal BMC Biology have shown that calcium acts as a switch between short- and long-term storage of learned information.
I am thinking this may be a clue to Colony Collapse, where bees simply leave the hive and do not return. Could it be a (long term) memory problem? I have previously speculated on a link between CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) and electromagnetic waves from mobile phones and other sources saturating the environment.
According to a study by Carl F. Blackman, alterations of Calcium ion activity are caused by ELF (Extra Low Frequency) and RF (Radio Frequency) waves. Henry Lai, in his article "Neurological Effects of Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Radiation Relating to Wireless Communication Technology" references several studies that found Calcium efflux (outfow) from the brains of test animals...
Since no clear pathogenic evidence has been found to explain CCD in bee populations, the electromagnetic hypothesis may gain some traction with this new study.
Since then, at least two different research teams have confirmed that the CaMV 35S promoter is active in animal and human cells. And new evidence has emerged that the CaMV 35S promoter specifically induces transcription factors required for making CaMV and HIV genomes by reverse transcription.
California EPA & European Court Recognize Toxicity of Fluoride
On May 29, 2009, over protests by the lobbyists for the American Dental Association and the Personal Care Products Council who oppose further evaluation of fluoride as cancer-causing, the State’s Qualified Experts that comprise the Carcinogen Identification Committee, as advisors to California EPA’s Office of Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), never-the-less established fluoride and its salts as meriting the highest priority they can recommend for further review toward including fluorides on a Prop 65 list of chemicals for which warnings for risks of cancer, birth defects, and reproductive toxicity are to be publicly posted.
European Court of Justice:
• Fluoridated water, as a 'near-water drink containing added minerals', is a functional food with recognisable pharmaceutical properties. As such, it must be regulated as a medicinal product.
• In the absence of a relevant medicinal marketing authorization for its supply to the public, fluoridation of public water supplies in the UK and Ireland must stop immediately.
Women in agriculture at highest risk of leukemia
Agricultural workers have the highest incidence of leukemia of all New Zealand occupation groups, probably because of their exposure to chemicals, the Massey University's public health specialists have found.
They found elevated leukemia risk four or five times greater among market gardeners and nursery growers compared to the general population. Market farmers and crop growers, and field crop and vegetable growers, also all experienced varying degrees of elevated risk.
Why the Medical Industry Is Lashing Out at Oprah Winfrey
The criticism the medical establishment is directing at Oprah through this article only exposes their own frustration in having squandered their credibility with the public. They hope that if they can successfully attack the Oprah's immense credibility, then they can magically get some of that credibility back for themselves. However, if people still trusted the health care industry to act in their best interest the way they did decades ago, then it would be unnecessary to brand Oprah for "crazy talk" simply because she occasionally provides a forum for ideas outside of mainstream medicine.
Video:The Mercury-Autism Cover Up
In June of 2000, the Center for Disease Control, the World Wealth Organization, the FDA, "leading" scientists and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry got together for a secret meeting.
Their focus was the growing public and scientific awareness that mercury used as a preservative in vaccines for children had unleashed an epidemic of autism.
The participants came to three conclusions:
1. They acknowledged the autism/mercury connection was true (or at least highly plausible)
2. They conspired to create a statistical smokescreen to obscure the science
3. They agreed not to disclose anything that took place at the meeting
New Zyprexa Documents Show Lilly Ghostwrote Zyprexa Studies
Ensuring that medical journal articles presented Zyprexa study results in a positive light was one way for Lilly to reach its sales goal, company officials said in its plan, according to the documents.
To do that, Lilly officials hired ghostwriters to prepare submissions to journals such as Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry, according to the unsealed documents.
FDA Links ADHD Stimulants To Sudden Death In Healthy Children
This study, funded by the FDA and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), compared the use of stimulant medications in 564 healthy children from across the United States who died suddenly to the use of stimulant medications in 564 children who died as passengers in a motor vehicle accident. The study authors concluded that there may be an association between the use of stimulant medications and sudden death in healthy children.
Empirical findings published in the American Journal of Psychiatry lend validity to the long debated claim by critics of stimulant drugs prescribed for ADHD: that the short and long term risks are serious; the diagnosis, controversial; and the benefits are short-lived.
Paxil Damages Sperm In 50 Percent Of Men Taking Drug
"It’s fairly well known that SSRI anti-depressants negatively impact erectile function and ejaculation. This study goes on step further, demonstrating that they can cause a major increase in genetic damage to sperm," said Dr. Peter Schlegel, the study’s senior author and professor of reproductive medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York.
They have accused the manufacturers of Cervarix and another jab, Gardasil, of making misleading claims.
More than 1,300 British girls have reported adverse reactions to Cervarix, ranging from paralysis to convulsions and sight problems.
Swine Flu Vaccination Poses Serious Threat to Your Health Danish blog post on the serious health implications of experimental vaccines such as the one proposed for the so-called Swine Flu.
The WHO will now recommend that pharmaceutical companies make swine flu vaccine. The U.S. government has already increased the availability of flu-fighting medicines and authorized $1 billion for developing a new swine flu vaccine. There is big money in this – and big opportunities to promote the WHO to be the health ministry of the New World order UN-government! The Council on Foreign Relations 12 June 2009: "What now kicks in is a greater sense of urgency for the pharmaceutical industry," says CFR Senior Fellow for Global Health Laurie Garrett.
"Now that pandemic has been declared, more and more countries will guarantee that they will purchase vaccine if it is available, and WHO and World Bank will guarantee to purchase for the poorest countries in the world."
Autism and Toxins
Studies showing that vaccines and their many constituents do not contribute to this problem are flawed, filled with specious reasoning and, for the most part funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Even articles in reputable medical journals are often written by doctors with an economic interest in continuing the vaccination program's status quo.

European election results: People want freedom of choice, national sovereignty
It seems that the European people are beginning to wake up to the fact that their national sovereignty has been almost completely eroded in recent years and putting their head in the sand and ignoring what’s going on in Brussels won’t make things any better. It is a matter of rescuing the last remnants of democracy from a system that’s been rapidly moving towards totalitarianism.
For European citizens who care about their futures and those of their children, 2009-14 will need to be a time of engagement with their European elected representatives. People will need to make clear what it is that they want, and what they don’t want, making their case as solidly as they can. We at the ANH look forward to working with the people of Europe, as well as with those Members of the European Parliament who are concerned about our disconnection from nature, about the chemicals in our food and our water, about the healthiness of the food in our supermarkets—and about the attacks on natural healthcare.

In a letter published in this week's BMJ, Professor David Colquhoun from University College London says the MHRA "has made a mockery of its own aims" by allowing Arnica 30C pills to be labelled "a homoeopathic medicinal product used with the homoeopathic tradition for the symptomatic relief of sprains, muscular aches, and bruising or swelling after contusions."
This label should be illegal, he says, because the pills contain no trace of the ingredient on the label...
My comment:It should be clear even to the most obtuse medical "authority" that homeopathic remedies do not pretend to contain the actual molecules of the starting substance. They work because they have been homeopathically diluted until there are only traces or not even those of the actual substance. They work on the information principle. But then - information seems to be a scarce thing in mainstream medicine.
If a law was made to allow registration of homeopathic medicinal products, how can it then be illegal to make one? Come on. Pharma isn't the only game in town!
Multivitamins in pregnancy reduce risk of low birth weights
"Low birth weight and related complications are considered the most common cause of global infant mortality under the age of 5 years," write Dr. Prakash Shah and study coauthors from Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. "With the possibility of reducing low birth weight rates by 17%, micronutrients supplementation to pregnant women, we believe, offers the highest possible return for the investment.
Natural bleach 'key to healing'
In the human body, hydrogen peroxide is produced primarily in three places - the lung, gut and thyroid gland.
Professor Mitchison said: "Perhaps in conditions like asthma, the lung epithelia is producing too much hydrogen peroxide because it's chronically irritated, which, if our findings translate to humans, would explain inappropriate levels of white blood cells.
New antibiotics: a DNA binding compound kills bacteria
The compound [Fe2L3]4+ is an iron triple helicate with three organic strands wrapped around two iron centres to give a helix which looks cylindrical in shape and neatly fits within the major groove of a DNA helix. It is about the same size as the parts of a protein that recognise and bind with particular sequences of DNA. The high positive charge of the compound enhances its ability to bind to DNA which is negatively charged.
When the iron-helicate binds to the major groove of DNA it coils the DNA so that it is no longer available to bind to anything else and is not able to drive biological or chemical processes.
EFSA defends aspartame (again)
EFSA, the European Commission's Food Safety Agency, sided with the FDA (the US regulator), Ajinomoto (the aspartame manufacturer), Coca-Cola (the major marketer) and the many hundreds of food companies that profit from including aspartame in their products. In a travesty to science, EFSA, like the FDA, with which it has signed an agreement of cooperation in 2007, has rejected the Ramazzini findings, despite they being the most thorough investigations yet conducted into the carcinogenic potential of aspartame.
“The product should be withdrawn from circulation to preserve the health of Venezuelans,” the minister said in comments reported by the government’s news agency.
A comment by Betty Martini (www.wnho.net/) Coca Cola Zero banned in Venezuela due to aspartame. It would be nice if the US thought as much about its consumers. Millions of pages on the Internet tell the story of this deadly addictive genetically engineered excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug that interacts with drugs and vaccines...
Health officials said tests show the cola contains sodium cyclamate. Coca-Cola Co. disputes that, saying the product sold in Venezuela uses different artificial sweeteners, Acesulfame-K and Aspartame.
Cyclamate is not prohibited in Venezuela. But the ministry said the company failed to report sodium cyclamate as an ingredient in Coca-Cola Zero when it received its initial health permit to begin selling the drink in April.
Big Pharma and the FDA: Suppress the Science, Ban the Natural Substances, Sell the Drugs!
As one newspaper columnist humorously put it, “One of these things is not like the others: morphine, penicillin, aspirin, Cheerios. Most drugs, if taken improperly, will kill the consumer or cause substantial bodily harm. An entire bottle of aspirin at one sitting will harm or kill. If Cheerios is a drug, therefore, one should be able to commit suicide by consuming the entire box.”
Seroquel, Geodon Tied To Death Of 3-Year-Old "Bipolar Child" In Kansas
The parents do as instructed, taking their daughter to a 70-something psych doc who prescribes both Seroquel and Geodon to control Destiny, who weighs 37 pounds. The article doesn't specify what diagnosis the child was given, but based upon the meds we're in bipolar child country here. Eventually, the doctor ups the Seroquel dosage to 600 mgs. a day--yes, in a 3-year-old, 37 pound girl--and that's the high end of adult dosages of the drug...
"If they get a high they like from a drug such as Seroquel, it becomes popular through word of mouth.
"The problem is that when they become addicted to the new drug, they cannot control the side-effects.
France Considers Mandatory Flu Vaccinations
The French government will spend nearly a billion euros on a mandatory flu vaccination this autumn, a French website reported on May 30. “France is preparing a battle plan without precedent for this autumn, including an obligatory vaccination campaign for all French of more than 3 months of age,” writes Marie-Christine Tabet for Le Journal du Dimanche.
The WHO's askew flu fears LA Times opinion piece by Michael Fumento
How bizarre! The World Health Organization has declared swine flu a "pandemic," signaling governments worldwide to launch emergency response plans.
The mildest pandemics of the 20th century killed at least a million people worldwide, according to the WHO's data, while old-fashioned seasonal flu strikes every nation yearly and kills an estimated 250,000 to 500,000. As of Thursday, when the pandemic was declared, H1N1 swine flu had killed only 144 people total -- fewer than succumb daily to seasonal flu annually.
Question:Do we really need a World Health Organization to tell us we should prepare for a pandemic because pharma manufacturers have been losing business and governments should make up for that by buying huge stocks of vaccines that do not yet exist so we can eventually get vaccinated against a disease that expresses itself - in the vast majority of cases - as a mild indisposition?
Fear Itself This is an excerpt from Sissy Nation: How America Became a Culture of Wimps and Stoopits, published by Virgin Books USA in 2007.
By the time the daily threat of nuclear annihilation faded into the background, we'd become such Sissies, so used to feeling threatened all the time, that we began to fill in with a long list of other "threats" to worry or panic about. Many of them played on our Sissy dread of disease and our own mortality — not to mention our fear of direct contact with others — by scaring us with threats of some kind of infection. In 1976, the Centers for Disease Control threw the entire nation into a mass panic about swine flu, after a single soldier at Fort Dix died of it. President Gerald Ford, dutifully citing the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 — a real epidemic that killed at least 50 million people worldwide, including more than half a million Americans — declared that every man, woman and child in the United States must be inoculated immediately. Millions of dollars' worth of vaccine was hastily prepared and rushed out, and worried Sissies stood in long lines to get their shots.
Gardasil in the spotlight
Does it work on young teenage girls? - We don’t know.
How long will the immunity last? - We don’t know.
Might it cause other strains of the virus to increase in importance? - We don’t know.
What effect will it have on our already efficient screening service? - We don’t know.
What other risk factors are there for cervical cancer? - Several important ones.
Can the vaccine have serious adverse effects? - This we do know. There has been a high rate of reports of adverse effects...
Money 3.0 - The Community IS the Currency
This is a presentation of slides by Chris Cook who predicts that money will change from the current bank-issued kind to a direct, peer-to-peer relationship between capital and use of that capital by using a guarantee-supplying intermediary that is formed in partnership... Interesting point of view.
Homeopathy in epidemic prevention - Cuba leads the way
Cuba goes through a yearly cycle of Leptospirosis epidemic, especially after hurricanes flood the countryside and water pollution reaches its height. (Leptospirosis: infectious disease caused by the spirochaete Leptospira transmitted to humans from rats, giving jaundice and kidney damage. Can cause death)
Each year the graphs would edge higher and higher towards the year-end, reaching up to the thousands of infected.
But this time, within 2 weeks after Aug 2007, the rising lines literally dropped off the chart to ZERO-Ten infections only! Yes. Near-zero infections, zero deaths from leptospirosis after Aug 2007. And in 2008, no deaths, infections less than 10 a month.
Now if we could only translate this experience to the flu - yes, also the pandemic ones - and get the WHO to go along with it, we might have real prevention worth the name. But then ... there is the fact that this costs very little and certainly doesn't bring big profits for the pharma multinationals...
Swine flu: how proportionate is the pandemic response?
From a scientific standpoint, the over-reliance on drugs and vaccines is deeply questionable. Of particular concern is the lack of efficacy of anti-viral drugs in dealing with serious influenza, the serious side-effects of these drugs, and the variable efficacy and safety of vaccines, especially when a pandemic strain might be quite unstable.
Tomato pill 'beats heart disease'
The tomato pill contains an active ingredient from the Mediterranean diet - lycopene - that blocks "bad" LDL cholesterol that can clog the arteries.
More than a dozen preliminary trials involving around 150 people with heart disease indicate that Ateronon can reduce the oxidation of harmful fats in the blood to almost zero within as little as eight weeks, a meeting of the British Cardiovascular Society will be told at Ateronon's launch on Monday.
Neuroscientist Peter Kirkpatrick, who will lead a further research project at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on behalf of Cambridge Theranostics Ltd, said the supplement could be much more effective than statin drugs that are currently used by doctors to treat high cholesterol.
The British Heart Foundation: "Our advice to heart disease patients or those at high risk is to rely on proven medications prescribed by their doctor, and aim to get the benefits of a Mediterranean diet by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables."
Well, I suppose it would be too bad if people were to avoid some of those medicines like the infamous statin drugs and started migrating towards natural products for better health ...
Diet may reduce risk of prostate cancer
Specifically, consumption of tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, green tea, and vitamins including Vitamin E and selenium seemed to propose a decreased risk of prostate cancer. Consumption of highly processed or charcoaled meats, dairy products, and fats seemed to be correlated with prostate cancer.
Doctors Warn: Avoid Genetically Modified Food
On May 19th, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) called on “Physicians to educate their patients, the medical community, and the public to avoid GM (genetically modified) foods when possible and provide educational materials concerning GM foods and health risks.” They called for a moratorium on GM foods, long-term independent studies, and labeling. AAEM’s position paper stated, “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. They conclude, “There is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects. There is causation...”
Book:Shedding Light on Genetically Engineered Food
"Overall, U.S. regulatory agencies policies* state that: no public records need to be kept on farms growing GE crops; companies that buy from farmers and sell to food manufacturers and grocery chains do not need to keep GE crops separate from traditional crops (therefore purchasers have no way to avoid buying GE foods); and labeling of any seeds, crops, or any food products with information about their GE origins is not required. As a result of these policies, American consumers have no way to exercise informed choices in the grocery store."
More Transparency at the FDA?
It happens in small steps, but every day we learn another bit about the changes the Hamburg/Sharfstein team are bringing to an FDA saddled in dysfunction, corruption, and incapacity. Most recently, they have announced a program that would bring much more transparency to decisons on New Drug Applications and applications for new indications that could unearth material on drugs and devices that are normally not surfaced except in litigation. Source article in New York Times.
USA Today: Conflicts of interest bedevil psychiatric drug research Vera Hassner Sharav of AHRP:
Psychiatry's leadership is scrambling and fumbling in its effort to explain why it's collusion with industry for pay is okay. Ever wondered how toxic psychoactive drugs that have been shown to be clinically insignificant have been catapulted into multi-billion dollar blockbuster sellers despite the fact that these drugs pose serious safety risks?
Sex and Psych Drugs - Young Couples Beware
Sexual dysfunction, including lack of libido, orgasmic dysfunction and delayed ejaculation, are common side effects of using SSRI antidepressants, according to the May 2005 report, “The Marketing of Depression: The Prescribing of SSRI Antidepressants to Women,” by Dr Janet Currie. The report warns:
“There are concerns that not all sexual dysfunction may fully resolve after termination of treatment. Since SSRIs are prescribed more often for women, women are more frequently affected by SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction. Because SSRIs can also lead to a worsening of depression, paradoxical effects, emotional blunting or detachment, reduced emotional activity, memory loss and confusion, these effects, in conjunction with sexual dysfunction, can negatively affect intimate relationships.”
South Florida Family Sues Psychiatrist for Son’s Death
Dr. Sohail Punjwani who gave mind altering drugs to South Florida children could soon be going to court to defend his reasoning for prescribing the drugs. The mother of one of the boys spoke out about her son on Thursday.
"He was like a zombie, my son was like a zombie all the time," said Norma Tringali as she described the final days of her teen aged son Emilio Villamar.
Vioxx, A Mercky Story - Did Merck know that Vioxx causes heart problems?
However confident Merck may have been that Vioxx was safe, they were aware that not everyone agreed, and they worked to defend and promote their product. The result was that when they eventually found evidence that long term (eighteen months) use of Vioxx significantly increased the chance of a heart attack or a stroke, they were deluged with lawsuits.
UK: Ministers dropped Vioxx protest after lobbying from US drug firm
A minister promised in parliament that the government would back their campaign against Merck, one of the world's largest drugs firms. But Whitehall documents obtained by the Guardian reveal Merck immediately put pressure on the minister and helped persuade the government to withdraw its support.
Merck is refusing to compensate hundreds of Britons who say their health was damaged even though the multinational has paid out more than £2bn to 44,000 people in America.
Video:Dr. Fuhrman Cures Diabetes - But Drug Companies Object
Joel Fuhrman MD has cured hundreds of people of diabetes using diet and lifestyle. The American Diabetic Association wanted him to write about his work -- but then objected because their sponsor, Eli Lilly drug company, might feel threatened by an MD promoting a cure which could destroy the market for their diabetes medications. This is an excerpt from Dr. Furhman's presentation at the Healthy Lifestyle Expo 2007.
The article shows that autism is getting to be a real, wide-spread problem. The trouble seems to be that we don't know, and seem to have a block on finding out, what actually causes it. Probably one (or more) of our sacred cows.
My guess is medicine (neurotoxic mercury) and technology (electromagnetic pollution) working together to ruin lives.
A. Yes. Everybody seems to agree that we have an epidemic of what is diagnosed as autism. But many good researchers forget that you cannot have an epidemic of any type of a developmental or genetic disorder. It is literally scientifically impossible. When I make that statement, I see people beginning to understand that autism is an illness and we need to treat it that way.
According to the NIDS Research Institute, neuro-immune and/or auto-immune dysfunction is at the bottom of conditions such as Autism, ADD, Alzheimer's, ALS, CFS/CFIDS, MS, PDD and other immune-mediated diseases.
Campaigners are calling for the vaccination programme to be suspended, claiming there are unanswered questions about the long-term effectiveness and safety of Cervarix, the drug used for the vaccine. They are concerned that official information refers to mild side-effects, when some girls have reported serious reactions to the jab.
CDC Vaccine Advisor Pockets $29 Million Promoting Vaccines
Dr. Paul Offit of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) received at least $29 million from his share of royalties for Merck's Rotateq vaccine after using his position with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure that childhood vaccination with the vaccine became compulsory.
"Clearly, based on the distribution of income rights outlined in [CHOP's policies], Paul Offit had a greater personal interest in Rotateq's commercial success than any other single individual in the world," article authors Dan Olmsted and Mark Blaxill write. "And more than any other individual in the world, he found himself in a position to directly influence that success."
Between 1998 and 2003, Offit sat on the U.S. government's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
WHO recommends anti-diarrhoea jab
The World Health Organization says a jab which can prevent a diarrhoea and vomiting virus should be given to all children as a routine vaccination.
Yes, this is the same vaccination that Offit (see previous link) got handsomely paid for.
Wonder what it took to convince the WHO to recommend a vaccination instead of preventing diarrhea by cleaning up drinking water sources in developing countries and ensuring everyone has proper nutritious food.
The next round of the GMC hearing begins on June 8th and continues until June 26th. The three weeks of hearing will be taken up with the last two closing speeches on behalf of Professor Simon Murch and Professor Walker-Smith.
My reports of these three weeks will be set against the backdrop of the major changes in vaccine policy announced recently by the JVCI that has now taken responsibility for national vaccine policy. And against the background of the campaign being waged by Lancet editor Horton and the friends of David Southall, to award legal and regulatory immunity to all pediatricians.
In the last few weeks, the reason for the interminable foot dragging over this GMC Fitness to Practice hearing has become increasingly clear. The government and the JCVI needed to put into place it's new policies and bring an end to any right that parents might have to argue that their children should not be vaccinated. They have now achieved this by declaring that 'all children have a right to vaccination' and therefore no parent has any right on any grounds to deny any vaccination to their children. The final part of this policy is the continued denial, by pediatricians, NHS officials, The Sunday Times , Brian Deer and a good number of ignorant money-grabbing politicians, that there is any such thing as vaccine damage.
Alan Golding's excellent film Selective Hearing Brian Deer and the GMC can be viewed free at www.cryshame.com.
In bringing the fitness to practice case against Dr Andrew Wakefield, Professor Simon Murch and Professor John Walker-Smith, the General Medical Council in the UK listened to the Sunday Times journalist Brian Deer and excluded the views of hundreds of parents of vaccine damaged children. Who is Brian Deer: vigilante for truth or front man for Big Pharma? Selective Hearing covers Deer’s part in the heartbreaking betrayal of vaccine damaged children by the British government.
Compulsory MMR jab a human rights issue
The real culprits in the vaccination debate are the governments which have refused to make available single vaccines for mumps, measles and rubella, which the evidence so far indicates will not trigger autism. When parents are threatened with exclusion of their child from school unless vaccinated, it becomes a human rights issue.
Has Sustiva Solved an HIV Mystery?
The revelation that Sustiva is not reported to be an extremely addictive psychotropic drug is disturbing. After speaking with patients like Karri who interrupted their prescriptions, it now appears that abstinence from so-called “ARVs” like Sustiva results not in an increased risk of AIDS but, instead, precipitates the onset of a painful and violent withdrawal syndrome not dissimilar to withdrawal from cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, and alcohol. Unfortunately for patients like Karri, AIDS clinicians typically mischaracterize the withdrawal syndrome as a manifestation of AIDS that will soon kill them. Unless given further information, care, and nurturing, most patients are physically and emotionally unprepared to contradict their white-coated physicians. Once the drug is re-administered, however, the “AIDS symptoms” disappear in ways not unlike junkies who inject a long-awaited dose of heroin.
Unbelievable! As it turns out, the vaunted "life saving" AIDS drug cocktails contain, in addition to toxic AZT in a lowered dose, a type of drug that is highly addictive and makes patients "feel cheerful, more optimistic, and more physically active".
Discontinuing the drugs sends one's viral load sky high and drops the T-cell count so low you need a submarine to read it. Of course the advice by clinicians when they see those results is that you must get back on those drugs immediately! Talk about compliance ... this is any pharma company's dream. But it's also highly illegal and immoral by any standard.
When will we see a proper investigation and prosecutions of the perpetrators of this deadly scam?
Has Robert Gallo faked original AIDS research?
That is what 37 senior researchers, medical doctors and legal professionals say. They are requesting that the medical journal Science withdraw four seminal papers on HIV authored by Dr. Robert Gallo—papers widely touted as proof that HIV is the "probable cause of AIDS."
The scientists describe development and lab testing of silver nanoparticles that seem to keep platelets in an inactive state. Low levels of the nanosilver, injected into mice, reduced the ability of platelets to clump together by as much as 40 percent with no apparent harmful side effects.
The nanoparticles “hold immense potential to be promoted as an antiplatelet agent,” the researchers note. “Nanosilver appears to possess dual significant properties critically helpful to the health of mankind — antibacterial and antiplatelet — which together can have unique utilities...
Routine aspirin benefits queried
Low-dose aspirin should not routinely be used to prevent heart attacks and strokes, contrary to official guidance, say UK researchers.
Analysis of data from over 100,000 clinical trial participants found the risk of harm largely cancelled out the benefits of taking the drug.
Scientists find bacterial zoo thrives in our skin
“... but they also keep your skin moist and make sure if you get a wound that (dangerous) bacteria don’t enter your bloodstream,” she said. “We take a lot for granted in terms of how much they contribute to our health.”
People’s bodies are ecosystems, believed home to trillions of bacteria, fungi and other microbes that naturally coexist in the skin, the digestive tract and other spots. But scientists don’t have a good grasp of which microbes live where, much less which are helpful, even indispensable, in maintaining health.
Omega fatty acid balance can alter immunity and gene expression
Anthropological evidence suggests that human ancestors maintained a 2:1 w6/w3 ratio for much of history, but in Western countries today the ratio has spiked to as high as 10:1. Since these omega fatty acids can be converted into inflammatory molecules, this dietary change is believed to also disrupt the proper balance of pro- and anti- inflammatory agents, resulting in increased systemic inflammation and a higher incidence of problems including asthma, allergies, diabetes, and arthritis.
Is vitamin D deficiency linked to Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia?
Several studies have correlated tooth loss with development of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia. There are two primary ways that people lose teeth: dental caries and periodontal disease. Both conditions are linked to low vitamin D levels, with induction of human cathelicidin by 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D being the mechanism.
Prescribing sunshine for multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) results from a failure of the body to recognize itself. The immune system attacks and destroys the sheath that protects nerve fibres, as if it were a foreign body or infection. Vitamin D, which is produced in the skin in response to natural sunlight, is an immune system regulator. This might explain why MS is less common in sunnier countries.
Europe Against GMOs and Patents on Life
As countries from the former eastern bloc joined the European Union (EU), the US had expected them to help counter the opposition to GMOs, but far from it. The newer members have added strength to the GM opposition, often in direct defiance of Brussels.
In April the European Commission sent a letter to Bulgaria warning over its failure to implement the European Directive for GMO in its legislation, as reported in the Klasa Daily [7]. This was the sixth official warning to Bulgaria for not following regulations. Experts commented that the current Bulgarian legislation is much more restrictive compared to European regulation. Bulgaria supported Hungary’s decision to keep the ban.
American Academy Of Environmental Medicine Calls For Moratorium On Genetically Modified Foods
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) today released its position paper on Genetically Modified foods stating that "GM foods pose a serious health risk" and calling for a moratorium on GM foods. Citing several animal studies, the AAEM concludes "there is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects" and that "GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health."
The FDA: A Dose of Reality
Despite the grandstanding consumer-safety posturing from certain lawmakers suggesting that consumers are not protected from supplements, what we all desperately need protecting from is the FDA, itself, which, in its current state, is powerful, unresponsive, political, inept and corrupt.
Billionaires meet - agree to curb overpopulation
Here's an interesting article about a few of the richest people in America meeting secretly to consider how their wealth could be used to slow the growth of the world’s population and speed up improvements in health and education. The secrecy is understandable as population control is a very emotionally charged subject. I am encouraged, however, when I read:
"The issues debated included reforming the supervision of overseas aid spending to setting up rural schools and water systems in developing countries." and "Gates, 53, who is giving away most of his fortune, argued that healthier families, freed from malaria and extreme poverty, would change their habits and have fewer children within half a generation."
Throwing Billions Down a Psych Drug Rat Hole
In 2008, the makers of psychiatric drugs raked in overall sales in the US of $14.6 billion from antipsychotics, $9.6 billion off antidepressants, $11.3 billion from antiseizure drugs and $4.8 billion in sales of ADHD drugs, for a grand total of $40.3 billion.
It also has failed to meet its legal requirement that such prescriptions be given only after parental consent or court order.
Children's Use Of Psychiatric Drugs Begins To Decelerate
The growth in antipsychotic-drug prescriptions for children is slowing as state Medicaid agencies heighten their scrutiny of usage and doctors grow more wary of the powerful medications.
Could there be a chance of sanity prevailing in the end?
Antidepressants - Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft Increase Risk of Breast Cancer
Inexplicably, the FDA has dragged its feet about adding a warning label to both tamoxifen and the antidepressants, Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft--despite the unanimous recommendation of its own advisory panel in 2006.
An independent large study conducted by MEDCO Health Solutions Inc. found that women treated with tamoxifen for breast cancer doubled the risk of the disease returning if they used antidepressants--in particular, Paxil and Prozac.
We need to understand how much energy our chosen lifestyles consume, we need to decide where we want that energy to come from, and we need to get on with building energy systems of sufficient size to match our desired consumption.
But Governor, You Can Create Money! Just Form Your Own Bank.
Only three of fifty states are now solvent, meaning they have the revenues to meet their state budgets; and one of them is North Dakota. It is an unlikely candidate for the distinction. It is a sparsely populated state of less than 700,000 people, largely located in isolated farming communities afflicted with cold weather. Yet since 2000, the state’s GNP has grown 56%, personal income has grown 43%, and wages have grown 34%. The state not only has no funding issues, but this year it actually has a budget surplus of $1.2 billion, the largest it has ever had.
North Dakota boasts the only state-owned bank in the nation.
Here is a position on the issue, an excerpt from a editorial by Pamela Ronald in the Boston Globe.
It is followed by the counter-argument from Herve Le Crosnier. Please note Herve is a French-language speaker, and the text may be less than perfect in English, but still eminently readable and cogent.
Monsanto’s Terminator Making a Comeback? Enter the Zombie!
Plants are engineered with sterility as the default condition, but sterility can be reversed with the application of an external stimulus that restores the plant’s viability. In order to bring the “zombie” seed back from the dead, the farmer or breeder must use an external stimulus (such as a proprietary chemical) to restore the seed’s fertility.
Too much cola zaps muscle power
"With aggressive mass marketing, super-sizing of soft drinks, and the effects of caffeine tolerance and dependence, there is very little doubt that tens of millions of people in industrialised countries drink at least 2-3 l of cola per day.
"It follows that the serum potassium levels of these heavy cola drinkers are dropping, in some cases, to dangerous low levels."
The author of the research paper, Dr Moses Elisaf from the University of Ioannina in Greece, said it appeared that hypokalaemia (low potassium levels) can be caused by excessive consumption of three of the most common ingredients in cola drinks - glucose, fructose and caffeine.
FDA Calls Cheerios an “Unapproved Drug”
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning letter to cereal manufacturer General Mills for claiming on its cereal box that Cheerios can help lower cholesterol, and saying on their website that “diets rich in whole grain foods can reduce the risk of heart disease.” The letter, dated May 5, called the above claims “serious violations” of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and applicable regulations. FDA stated that based on the claims made, Cheerios is now an unapproved drug, and must go through FDA new drug approval process.
NCI Study Links Aspartame To Leukemia/Lymphoma
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced April 20, 2009: ..."on the basis of all the evidence currently available including the [second] published ERF study there is no indication of any genotoxic or carcinogenic potential of aspartame and that there is no reason to revise the previously established ADI (allowable daily intake) for aspartame of 40mg/kg bw/day." Truth be told: aspartame is an addictive excitoneurotoxic, genetically engineered, carcinogenic that interacts with virtually all medications.
EFSA is blinded by allegiance to commercial interests so it invents objections to acclaimed medical research, disregarding the suffering, ruined lives and death their cupidity brings to Europe.
Pfizer and Sigma-Tau to Market Artemisia Based Treatment for Malaria in Africa
Eurartesim® (dihydroartemisinin + piperaquine), a Phase III product candidate, aims to treat uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in adults and children, while reducing the potential for re-infection. The product candidate, developed jointly by Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and Sigma-Tau, is expected to be filed for registration with the European Medicines Agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2009. Eurartesim® has already been granted orphan drug status by both the European and U.S. regulatory authorities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all uncomplicated malaria be treated with ACTs. This policy is designed to reduce drug resistance which has rendered the most widely used monotherapies, such as chloroquine, useless in many parts of the world.
I am re-linking this because of the tremendous importance an open source approach in health care has for real reform. My attention got drawn to the article again by the latest comment on it:
"Although I have often said that if I could only abolish a single department of the U.S. government it would be the murderous FDA, I do agree that other reforms–including the dismantling of the patent system, the abolition of licensing for medical personnel, and the freeing of trade with other drug-producing countries–are needed as well. The ultimate goal must be the complete and total separation of healthcare and state, for as long as the two are tied together, (1) health insurance will remain exorbitant and options limited, (2) healthcare costs will remain exorbitant, (3) life-saving drugs and medical procedures will be kept off the market, and (4) people will needlessly die."
The Multivitamin Battle
Overall, the study showed that the use of multiple dietary supplements led to better health. As the researchers themselves said, individuals who consume a number of nutritional supplements were found to have better biomarkers of health than those who do not consume any supplements or who only consumed a multivitamin/mineral.
Among other benefits, multiple-supplement users also had lower levels of C-reactive protein and triglycerides and higher levels of HDL (the so-called "good") cholesterol. Other findings in the multiple supplements group included lower risks of elevated blood pressure, diabetes (73% less compared to nonusers), and coronary heart disease (52% less compared to nonusers). Subjects consuming multiple dietary supplements also reported having "good or excellent" health status 74 percent more often than non-supplement users.
Manhunt For A Boy... And The Bacteria In Hodgkins Disease
Before chemotherapy and radiation treatments were designed for HD, the disease was uniformly fatal. Now the 5-year survival rate for the average patient is about 80%. However, the patient may play a heavy price healthwise for this standard therapy. Patients who survive radiation treatment for HD can develop a second related cancer. According to Aisenberg, deaths from second malignancies are the most important cause of death other than HD itself.
Women with HD who are radiated have up to a 40 percent greater risk for breast cancer. HD patients are also at increased risk for acute leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Minnesota mental health patient Ray Sandford forced into electro-shock therapy
A three-second burst of 140 volts blasts through Sandford's brain. While he's totally unconscious, Sandford's torso jerks up and down. His arms and legs writhe only slightly, steadied by muscle relaxants coursing through his veins. Sandford's toes curl downward, as if his feet were trying ball up into fists. He's experiencing a grand mal seizure.
Two minutes later, it's over. Sandford will feel a bit woozy the rest of the day, but there'll be no lasting pain. His short-term memory is the only thing that will suffer.
But he'll still remember quite clearly that he never wanted to do this.
"They can literally tie me up, put me in ambulance, and bring me in to get shock treatments," he says. "I don't fight it, because there's nothing I can do by that time. You want to know how I feel? I don't like it at all."
New Mexico Jail Dopes Many Inmates On Seroquel
Were there tons of inmates with schizophrenia? Nope. Just a psychiatrist who was convinced that he was treating undiagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in inmates and helping them sleep. The paper notes several former inmates claim, however, that the doc never diagnosed them with PTSD and Seroquel is not FDA-approved for PTSD. The whole thing is very, very weird.
Lawsuit says too many psychiatric drugs killed boy
Amid a wide-ranging debate over the proper use of mental health drugs on troubled children, the mother of a disabled boy who died in 2007 is claiming in a lawsuit the boy was overdosed by a cocktail of psychiatric drugs, including two powerful anti-psychotics.
Martha Quesada, the mother of 12-year-old Denis Maltez, filed a wrongful death and medical malpractice lawsuit Monday in Miami-Dade circuit court, claiming Denis' psychiatrist, Dr. Steven L. Kaplan, and the now-shuttered Rainbow Ranch group home overmedicated Denis and failed to properly monitor his condition.
Alaska Supreme Court Grants Mental Patients Constitutional Rights
(News Release of Psychrights.org - PDF file)
"One of the things they held," said Jim Gottstein, President and CEO of the Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights) and the attorney who handled the case, "is that if the State is holding someone in a psychiatric facility, they must provide a feasible alternative to the forced drugging if the alternative satisfies the State's asserted justification. The State's only other option is to let the person go."
Vera H. Sharav of the Alliance for Human Research Protection: "State laws in the US sanctioning involuntary commitment of mental patients were passed under the influence of psychiatrist E. Fuller Torrey and his Treatment Advocacy Center. These laws allow psychiatrists to aggressively force mental patients to ingest highly toxic psychotropic drugs--mostly in unapproved, untested, toxic combinations. Evidence links these drugs to severe adverse effects leading to life-shortening chronic diseases with little evidence of a therapeutic benefit."
US Federal Government and 16 States Allege Medicaid Fraud By Wyeth
Philip Dawdy of Furious Seasons comments: "You know, it must've been a cakewalk for pharma companies to rip off Medicaid because it seems like several of them have done it. The latest entrant in the Hall of Lame is Wyeth..."
“Those billions represent health care dollars that could be spent on medicine, elder care or emergency room visits, but instead are wasted on greed,” Holder said. “This is unacceptable, and the Justice Department is committed to working with the Department of Health and Human Services to eradicate it.”
Children Who Get Flu Vaccine Have Three Times Risk Of Hospitalization For Flu, Study Suggests
The inactivated flu vaccine does not appear to be effective in preventing influenza-related hospitalizations in children, especially the ones with asthma. In fact, children who get the flu vaccine are more at risk for hospitalization than their peers who do not get the vaccine, according to new research that will be presented on May 19, at the 105th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society in San Diego.
The swine flu, although pushed hard from certain quarters, seems to be on its way out before it really started. All that remains is the scary rethoric from official sources such as the US CDC and the WHO.
I am linking this article as the authors collected some interesting historical material on the "original flu epidemic" of 1918 here... yes, you may have guessed it, vaccines were involved then, and the preparations to scare us into mass vaccination this time are still going on.
Let's take a look at that historical flu so we don't have to make the same mistakes twice!
Mexico City ends swine flu alert
Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said the change means the risk of contagion is low, the situation is under control and the images of countless people wearing blue surgical masks in cars, sidewalks, restaurants and theaters can be consigned to history.
"There's no longer any need" to wear masks, Ebrard said. "Now you can come to the city without any risk."
City Health Secretary Armando Ahued said nobody has been hospitalized with respiratory infections in the last three days, and no swine flu cases have been confirmed since May 14.
Virus Myths Exposed --The True Causes of Pandemics
Contrary to common opinion, viruses don't kill people. If someone is sick and also has a virus, he or she is not sick because of the virus. A sickness must first exist before a virus can show up. Viruses are designed to induce healing, not illness. The symptoms such a healing effort produces (in this case, flu symptoms such as fever, headache, dizziness, fatigue, etc.), do not constitute the disease. Increasing body temperature (fever), for example, is one of the body's best methods to increase production of immune cells to deal with toxins and then dispose of bacteria, viruses, and fungi when they are no longer needed. Influenza is the final stage of healing an underlying disease; the disease consists of a buildup of toxins, heavy metals, acidic waste products, dead cell material, and other noxious substances that could otherwise lead to a life-threatening condition.
“HIV” tests are demonstrably invalid
To validate “HIV” tests in acknowledged absence of a gold standard, procedures are followed that are invalid if those tests pick up conditions other than “HIV infection”. Many such conditions are known. It is therefore highly unlikely that “HIV” tests could be properly validated.
Nevertheless, these “tests” are used to label individuals “HIV infected” whenever the attending clinician has a strong suspicion that this may be the case, for the most important part of “testing” comes before the actual test, it’s the “pre-test probability”. As previously noted, “HIV” tests are self-fulfilling prophecies.
Clearly, submitting to an “HIV” test is akin to buying a ticket in a lottery whose “prize” is stress, ill health, and iatrogenic harm.
Was it the result of some miracle drug? Are the health services in Iceland incredibly better than elsewhere? Findings of a study by the Icelandic Heart Association and the University of Iceland have the answer -- the vast majority of the cardiac mortality decrease in Iceland was attributable to reductions in risk factors throughout the general population. And the lowered risk was accomplished by simply adopting natural, healthy living strategies.
A recommendation to take four tablespoons of pureed asparagus stalks twice a day as a remedy for cancer is making the rounds on the internet. Some sites such as the one linked here tell us that there "is no scientific proof" that asparagus indeed can cure cancer, adding gratuitous discussion on antioxidants and on recommendations of the American Cancer Society.
Looking at the abysmal track record of "Cancer Societies" and modern medicine in their attempts to reduce the incidence of cancer, I can only say that I'd rather take some spoons of asparagus in an attempt to help the body overcome cancer than follow the recommendations for chemical poison and radiation that are standard fare nowadays for anyone who's got a tumor...
Men treated for prostate cancer could benefit from pomegranate juice
"This study suggests that pomegranate juice may effectively slow the progression of prostate cancer after unsuccessful treatment," said Christopher Amling, MD, an AUA spokesman. "This finding and other ongoing research might one day reveal that pomegranate juice is an effective prostate cancer preventative agent as well."
DDT a danger to exposed communities
Although the use of DDT as an agricultural pesticide has been largely abandoned worldwide, it has been used since the 1940s to combat malaria in SA and other areas, with its use endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The SA researchers on the international panel, who published their concerns in this month's issue of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, have 'strongly urged' an accelerated drive to look at better, safer ways of controlling malaria without compromising people's health, and that of the environment.
Research shows that Pesticides are a Huge risk for Parkinson’s Disease
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke has stated that the studies made by most researchers indicate that exposure to any type of toxins in the environment triggers Parkinson’s disease (PD). Parkinson’s is a degenerative disorder affecting the central nervous system of the human body, thereby impairing motor skills, speech and other functions. The correlation between Pesticides and PD has been studied for quite some time now. But the new study just published by University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in the American Journal of Epidemiology puts pesticides at the top of the list of toxins triggering PD.
EFSA’s Review of Ramazzini’s Second Aspartame Study Shows Sellout
In Dr. Soffritti’s studies the rat’s hair yellowed from the formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is converted from the methyl alcohol, a severe metabolic poison. In the Trocho Study (PDF) it shows the formaldehyde embalms living tissue and damages DNA. When this devastating independent study was published Dr. M. Alemany reported the aspartame manufacturer resorted to character assassination. When you damage DNA you destroy humanity!
Whistle-Blower Accuses FDA of Corruption
The idea of FDA officials making decisions seemingly in isolation and contrary to expert advice reminded me of the FDA’s approval of the artificial sweetener aspartame. The company that originally developed aspartame (manufactured by the pharmaceutical company G. D. Searle) had been petitioning the FDA for many years in an effort to get its product licensed.
The company didn’t have much luck until a new FDA commissioner was appointed after Ronald Reagan came to power. The new commissioner, Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes, duly granted aspartame a license, a decision that went against the FDA’s own scientific board of inquiry’s recommendations. (Hayes subsequently took a position with Burson-Marsteller, the firm in charge of public relations for G. D. Searle).
New Jersey Goes After Rampant Conflicts of Interest in Medical Device Industry
In announcing the settlement, [New Jersey Attorney General, Anne] Milgram said it is vital that the medical device industry change the way it approaches clinical testing. “We cannot allow financial conflicts-of-interest to infect the clinical trial process. It is a betrayal of the public trust, and has the potential to jeopardize patient well-being,” she said in a press release.
The same day, Milgram’s office also issued subpoenas to five major medical device makers seeking information about their business practices.
“Medical device makers have a duty to make certain that clinical trial results are accurate and unbiased,” she said. “In creating these financial incentives for doctors, Synthes and the rest of the industry have done the exact opposite.”
The Big Pharma Plague REPUBLIC Magazine (PDF - 6 MB)
The history of the war on drugs in America has a lot to do with the National Security Strategy dating back to the 1940s. Somewhere between the beginning of time and the development of big Pharma, it became clear to the government that street drugs would impose a damaging snag in the basic element of the social fabric and needed more intense regulations. Since then, there have been numerous twists in the saga of drugs in America which has led to the pharmaceutical industry and the War on Drugs becoming a
massive contradiction in terms, yet both have unique ties to how the government operates, and by what standards these operations are carried out.
Book:Side Effects Death
Confessions of a Pharma-Insider
John Virapen used to be the executive director of the Swedish branch of Eli Lilly & Company, one of the biggest internationally active pharmaceutical companies. He engaged in the development of aggressive marketing strategies, which included to massive corruption in more than one occasion. He participated in the resolute distribution of drugs, which cause massive and dangerous side effects – like the death of the patient. Or the death of uninvolved bystanders caused by patients under the influence of antipsychotic drugs.
Did you know that
* pharmaceutical companies invest the considerable amount of 35,000 Euro per year and physician to get the physicians to prescribe their products?
* more than 75 percent of leading scientists in the field of medicine are paid for by the pharmaceutical industry?
* in some cases corruption prevailed in the approval and marketing of drugs?
* illnesses are made up by the pharmaceutical industry and specifically marketed to enhance sales and market shares for the companies in question?
* pharmaceutical companies increasingly target children?
Placebo: Thinking so, makes it so
Talk about “placebo-controlled trials” is too easily taken to imply that “placebo” means “doing nothing”. That is far from true. In reality, placebo describes the phenomenon that unconscious and not-understood emotional or mental processes can produce powerful physical effects. A person given a dummy pill and told that it is a drug will often experience the feelings that the drug would induce. Someone given a drug that lowers blood pressure, say, who is told that it raises blood pressure, may actually experience a rise in blood pressure: “placebo” can actually be more powerful than physical medication.
Mainstream disciplines are beginning to recognize the power of the placebo response. The National Institues of Health held a workshop in 2000, “The Science of the Placebo: Toward an Interdisciplinary Research Agenda”.
The Science of Voodoo: When Mind Attacks Body
The idea that believing you are ill can make you ill may seem far-fetched, yet rigorous trials have established beyond doubt that the converse is true - that the power of suggestion can improve health. This is the well-known placebo effect. Placebos cannot produce miracles, but they do produce measurable physical effects.
The placebo effect has an evil twin: the nocebo effect, in which dummy pills and negative expectations can produce harmful effects. The term “nocebo”, which means “I will harm”, was not coined until the 1960s, and the phenomenon has been far less studied than the placebo effect. It’s not easy, after all, to get ethical approval for studies designed to make people feel worse.
What we do know suggests the impact of nocebo is far-reaching. “Voodoo death, if it exists, may represent an extreme form of the nocebo phenomenon,” says anthropologist Robert Hahn of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.
A Minnesota judge has ordered a boy of 13 to have an x-ray and evaluation by an oncologist. If chemotherapy is recommended and the parents refuse, the judge says he would be 'placed in temporary custody'.
If you go to see the article, you will find a link to a poll: "What do you think of the ruling?" Incredibly, so far, a majority seems to think that it's quite ok to force someone to receive medical treatment against their will.
Popular cancer drug linked to often fatal brain virus
It looked like their brains had been eaten away. A brain biopsy and a spinal tap confirmed the diagnosis of a swiftly moving and often fatal viral brain infection called progressive multifocal leukoencephalitis (PML) that attacks the brain's white matter. Both had lymphoma and had been taking the popular cancer drug rituximab (brand name Rituxan) before they developed the brain infection.
"Rituximab is one of the most prominent drugs in a new class called monoclonal antibodies. One of the other two drugs, Raptiva, was taken off the market in April of this year because of the PML risk. The other drug, Tysabri, was removed from the market for 1½ years because of similar concerns.
Although a significant increase of the level of suicidality (suicidal thoughts) was found in studies testing antidepressants, the fact was never highlighted by the press or commentators. Was there a deliberate cover-up?
US: Number of foster children in Florida on mood-altering drugs underreported
The number of foster children in Florida prescribed mood-altering drugs has been significantly underreported, according to the early results of a statewide study sparked by a 7-year-old boy's suicide. Gabriel had been prescribed two psychotropic drugs.
... he only was listed in the database as being on Adderall, an attention deficit/hyperactivity drug, that he had been taken off of months before his death, said DCF Secretary George Sheldon. The two drugs that Gabriel was taking when he died--Symbyax and Vyvanse--had not been approved by either his parents or a judge--a violation of state law.
Why Anti-Depressants Failed To Live Up To Hype
Since it's well-established that anti-depressants don't perform as well as claimed, then the American public has been lied to for two decades about depression treatment and often those lies (or shall we say excessive claims?) have been made in advertisements since Direct-To-Consumer ads were made legal in the US in 1997. These lies were also spread by some reporters and news organizations who parroted the pharma line for far too long.
The 11th Commandment - AIDS, Sex and Society Fintan Dunne interviews Liam Scheff
Our guest is Liam Scheff, an American writer and journalist - a real journalist, and that’s amazing because they’re so hard to find these days.
But you wouldn’t believe what has happened as a result of one very important story that Liam broke, which was about AIDS orphans. These were orphaned kids in a home in New York City called the Incarnation Children’s Center.
Liam’s story on that topic was first published as “The House That AIDS Built,” and later on the New York Press as [“Orphans on Trial,” “Still on Trial” and] Inside Incarnation. And eventually that story made its way onto the UK’s BBC, in a film called “Guinea Pig Kids.”
Infant Primates Given Vaccines On U.S. Children's Immunization Schedule Develop Behavioral Symptoms Of Autism
A primate model for autism using the U.S. children's immunization schedule was unveiled at the International Meeting For Autism Research (IMFAR) this weekend. The research underscores the critical need for studies into vaccine safety and the immune and mitochondrial dysfunction of autistic children. The National Autism Association (NAA) questions why the government hasn't undertaken these vital studies and why researchers have had to depend on private money to perform this critical science that will surely impact the health of millions of children worldwide.
Cell Phone Usage Damages Memory
The influence of cellular phones on brain functions and general health has been widely researched in recent years. Most of the experiments try to understand whether electromagnetic radiation is cancerous or not. Researchers from Ben Gurion University and Soreq Research Center for Nuclear Energy have decided to take a closer look at the effect mobile phones have on people's cognitive functions.
Economy: More than Banking Needs to Change
Light touch regulation has also been the rule in other sectors, including the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Regulators depend on the companies not only to carry out the tests but to analyse and interpret the results, and then take their word for it.
A revolving door policy means that regulators often come from industry and then go back once they have served their terms. Regulation is largely about details rather than the strategic issues: when an application is being discussed it is considered enough for the person with a connection to that firm to leave the room, even though other corporations’ nominees may be just as anxious as the applicant to see permission granted because of the precedent it will set. The UK government has given its regulators a very strong steer that they are to favour GM not because the farmers and consumers want it – they don’t – but because they see it as one of our industrial golden geese. Here, of course, they are blatantly ignoring the market, which even the most committed neo-liberals seem willing to do when it suits them.
CODEX: Why your health depends on stopping it
Codex is not just about nutritional supplements, although that is an important aspect. In fact, it is the primary political battlefield where the war is being waged about who will regulate and control the global food supply, from field and stable to table.
As a result of Codex rules, those vitamins and minerals that would compete with medicines would require a doctor's prescription. The European Union has already adopted Codex-type regulations that went into effect across Europe in 2005.
I am linking this article because Codex is a juggernaut ready to crush healthy nutrition. With its general anti-supplement and anti-nutrition bias, Codex is a tool of the Chem/AG industry giants. Nevertheless, I do not agree with several of the more dire predictions in the linked article. While Codex and supplement laws in general are a real problem, there has been a well run campaign to exaggerate what is happening as a consequence of Codex, perhaps in an effort to discredit any serious opposition to Codex.
Particularly the section of the article headed "Some Codex standards" is filled with exaggerated, either false or heavily twisted, claims of what Codex will cause and when. Many of those exaggerations can be traced back to the reporting of Rima Laibow of the "Natural Solutions Foundation". Personally, I do not believe that our aim of preserving freedom of choice in health is served by this kind of reporting. Why invent things when reality is worse than we ever dreamed?
Research finds kava safe and effective
'We've been able to show that kava offers a natural alternative for the treatment of anxiety, and unlike some pharmaceutical options, has less risk of dependency and less potential of side effects,' Mr. Sarris said.
In 2002 kava was banned in Europe, UK and Canada due to concerns over liver toxicity.
While the three-week trial raised no major health concerns regarding the kava extract used, the researchers said larger studies were required to confirm the drug's safety.
'When extracted in the appropriate way, kava may pose less or no potential liver problems. I hope the results will encourage governments to reconsider the ban,' Mr. Sarris said.
Poverty and Food Insecurity in the Developing World: For Us, Tolls the Bell
Blaming food insecurity and hunger on poverty [essentially, inability to earn sufficient cash to buy food] has been the official position of most governments and of international institutions like UN-FAO, World Bank, IMF, and CGIAR. Unfortunately such notions serve powerful economic and political interests that perpetuate hunger, malnutrition, diseases, illiteracy, ignorance, urban slums and filth and rural poverty globally.
Those who influence the developmental agenda of governments seldom pause to think that farmers and gardeners can always grow enough food to stave off hunger and malnutrition from less than 200 square meters of land; with about 2000 square meters they can feed themselves quite well with some surplus.
Codex Committee Divided On GM Labeling
To label GM foods or not to label them - Canada, the United States, Argentina, New Zealand, and Australia say no labels should be required, as consumers "would not understand" and wouldn't buy GM.
To balance this, the European Union, Brazil, the African countries, Saint Lucia, and all of the International NonGovernmental Organizations think labeling GM foods is a good idea. The battle is between industry and exporting countries on the one side and consumers on the other, and it is still unresolved. It is normal for Codex discussions to draw out over several years. The most vigilant and persistent side usually wins.
Natural Health Federation is representing nutrition-conscious consumers, and is of course arguing that GM labeling is needed.
Video:When Over the Counter Turns Lethal
There is a very real threat to your life lurking in your home right now. Widely believed to be one of the safest products on the market, yet anywhere between 100 to 500 Americans are dying every year from it. And tens of thousands more are being injured.
Federal investigator could review UT researcher
Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, sent a letter to the University of Texas System in September raising concerns that child pharmacology researcher Karen Wagner had not properly disclosed her financial connections with drug companies.
According to Grassley's research, GlaxoSmithKline paid Wagner, who is the director of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, more than $160,000 between 2000 and 2005. She only reported $600 to UTMB.
During two of those years, she worked on a major study on the company's drug Paxil - research that has been widely criticized for over-promoting positive findings while downplaying heightened suicidal thoughts and behavior in adolescents.
Almost 30 percent of cancer studies report conflict of interest
According to the authors, randomized clinical trials that assessed patient survival were more likely to report a survival advantage associated with the intervention when a conflict of interest was present. These trials are the foundation by which drugs, technologies, diagnostic tests, etc. get approved for use in the clinic and therefore shape the way oncologists practice medicine.
This analysis revealed that conflicts of interest exist in a considerable number of clinical cancer research articles published in important journals. The authors noted that "attempts to disentangle the cancer research effort from industry merit further attention, and journals should embrace both rigorous standards of disclosure and heightened scrutiny when conflicts exist."
115 cases of death with Strattera involved reported to the FDA 2004 – September 2008 and in Periodic Safety Update Reports from Eli Lilly and the UK medical agency MHRA.
48 children and teenagers have died, 25 of them committed suicide.
The responsible medical authorities (FDA in US, UK MHRA in Europe) have not done an independent investigation of all the cases of death – they do not even have a compilation of these. They have so far relied on data and analysis from the manufacturer Eli Lilly, who is only interested in one thing: To explain away all instances of death and increase profits.
“HIV” tests are self-fulfilling prophecies
Rarely if ever do the media mention that a positive “HIV”-test may not signify active infection by a pathogenic immune-system-destroying retrovirus. The research-level literature tells an entirely different story, however; it states accurately that no “positive” “HIV”-test — antibody, antigen, or nucleic-acid (“viral load”) — diagnoses active infection.
The unwary layman would be — or should be — further shocked upon discovering that “HIV” tests are to an alarming degree self-fulfilling prophecies. The fundamental reason for this is that there is no gold standard for any of these tests; there is not even a universal standard for what counts as “positive” on any given test.
Genocide Then and Now
It is a scientific fact that ARV drugs are some of the most toxic substances that can be given to the human body without killing it immediately. The extremely harmful side effects of these drugs include drug-induced immune deficiencies, the failure of various organs of the body and death. These side effects are listed in every patient information leaflet required by law to be attached to ARV drugs.
The promotion of ARV drugs in the developing world, particularly across the African continent, is a heinous plan for genocide.
H1N1-H5N1 Flu Outbreak Implicates Anglo-American “Vaccine Pipeline”
“No other group in the world takes H5N1 Asian flu infected chickens, brings them to Europe, extracts their DNA, combines their proteins with H1N1 viruses from the 1918 Spanish flu isolate, additionally mixes in swine flu genes from pigs, then ‘reverse engineers’ them to infect humans. The end product that Reuter’s describes could only end up in Mexico via the United States from Britain in care of the CDC. Ruben Donis at the CDC had to have sent them to Novavax, where Rick Bright’s team is now implicated in a conspiracy to commit genocide—the mass killing of people for profit.”
Novavax’s preliminary report in the Journal of Virology, with co-authors from the CDC in Atlanta, was posted online at the precise time Mexican officials began reporting deaths from this new strain of flu that is clearly an unprecedented recombinant of at least three H5N1 and H1N1 strains. Novavax’s Johnny-on-the-spot vaccine was prepared under the CDC’s “fast track” approval process speciously using these three strains never known to infect any human in Mexico.
Media Censoring Lethal Side Effects Of Flu Remedies
Rumsfeld’s Tamiflu is worse than worthless. It kills people. Japan has banned it. Even the FDA—after review of nearly 600 cases of neuropsychiatric events reported by patients on Tamiflu and 115 cases of neuropsychiatric events by patients taking Relenza—has warned that Tamiflu’s label be strengthened to note: “In some cases, these behaviors resulted in serious injuries, including death, in adult and pediatric patients.”
Swine flu: The social impact
Thankfully some realism seems to be creeping slowly into the media, with the UK Guardian last week saying that “around the world, public opinion seems to be shifting from fear of a pandemic to scepticism as to whether the virus poses a significant threat.”
It's worth remembering that we're infected with many different viruses on a daily basis, but our immune systems deal with them. Often, we're not even aware that we've had a virus at all, such is the effectiveness of the immune system in normal non-compromised indiduals.
Low-energy bulbs: a not-so-bright idea (PDF) Prof Rémy Prud'homme of Paris University
A simple calculation shows that changing bulbs will cause the annual total of CO² emissions to double, passing from 3 million tonnes with filament bulbs to more than
6 million tonnes with low-energy bulbs. Reducing purchasing power by 7 billion euro today in order to emit twice as much CO²?!
This is not a new article, but the situation at Wikipedia with self-appointed guardians of scientific orthodoxy snuffing out any hint of other points of view, is a continuing problem not only for information on the science of global warming but also in physics theories and many other areas. Under the guise of preventing information with a slanted point-of-view entering the internet encyclopedia, the editors are really imposing their specific point-of-view as the "consensus" of knowledge...
They found capsaicin, an ingredient of jalapeno peppers, triggers cancer cell death by attacking mitochondria - the cells' energy-generating boiler rooms.
The research raises the possibility that other cancer drugs could be developed to target mitochondria.
The fact that capsaicin and other vanilloids are already commonly found in the diet proves they are safe to eat.
This could make development of a drug containing them a much quicker and cheaper process.
I would like to know what's wrong with just using what Mother Nature provides ... why not put some spice in our food and for those who really can't stand the heat, perhaps a capsule of the powdered spice? Why does it always have to be a new drug?
Swine flu pandemic? It feels like a phoney war
We met at lunchtime, not to talk of heart attacks and Lego, but of flu. There have been deaths in Mexico. There has been one in the US. Our Indian partner said: "There were 2,000 deaths, mainly children in Africa and Asia, yesterday."
Our medical student looked shocked: "I didn't know swine flu had reached that part of the world." "It hasn't," said our partner. "I'm talking of deaths from malaria. But that isn't news, is it?"
We were silent for a while. Time to get things in proportion.
The Swine Flu or the FDA: Which Is More Dangerous to Your Health?
As Ridgeway observed, "With a worldwide market estimated at more than $1 billion, there's big money in a flu plague." In fact, the pharmaceutical industry has gone to great lengths through its lobbying and government contracts to ensure that it will get a good piece of the plague pie. Now with the swine flu set to become a global pandemic, Big Pharma is raking it in.
Some see media flu coverage as overblown
After a few days of breathless H1N1 flu coverage - some of it on his own network - CNN commentator Jack Cafferty noted that 13,000 people have died from the "regular ol' flu" this year in the United States, compared with just one confirmed H1N1 flu death. Cafferty then asked his audience to respond to his online poll asking "if swine flu coverage was overblown."
Swine Flu and Human Influenza – Questions and Answers
Unfortunately, in currently experienced outbreaks of swine flu infections, both public information and various experts’ advice are largely limited to the use of pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines as the primary strategy for prevention and therapy.
While drugs and vaccine are emphasized, at the same time the clinical benefits of dietary supplementation and optimum nourishment as the basis of immunity and enhanced resistance to infectious agents are largely ignored. However, it has been long recognized that well nourished people can effectively fight various infections without any pharmacological intervention. Today we know even more on this subject.
What is the swine-flu hysteria really about? (PDF)
Which preventive measures are possible to naturally strengthen the immune system and avoid infection without using pharmaceutical products?
The scientifically-researched key substances to naturally strengthen the immune system are vitamins C, B and E; folic acid; the naturally-occurring amino acids Lysine and Proline; and polyphenols such as EGCG, an extract of green tea.
Swine Flu is a HOAX! It is a U.S. Government Psychological Operation (Psy/Op) to TERRIFY the Public!
Don’t Panic! That’s what they WANT you to do! This supposed “Swine flu” is no more dangerous or life-threatening than the regular, garden-variety, every-day kind of flu.
What WILL be terribly dangerous and life-threatening are the vaccines they will manufacture (and purposely contaminate with deadly diseases) to supposedly “protect” you from Swine flu.
Lithium in water 'curbs suicide'
Researchers examined levels of lithium in drinking water and suicide rates in the prefecture of Oita, which has a population of more than one million.
The suicide rate was significantly lower in those areas with the highest levels of the element, they wrote in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
Stem Cell Powder To Re-grow Limbs
The experimental procedure involves a powder, make from the adult stem cells found in pigs bladders, to try and regenerate lost limbs. The powder is called an extra cellular matrix, a tool that is used by surgeons to aid in healing. The hope is that the powder can be used to attract other types of cells from the effected area of the body and regenerate a lost limb or digit in another area of the body.
This idea is based on the discovery that stem cells will grow to be the type of tissue that they are placed next to.
Hydroxycut - Weight Loss Supplement withdrawn
On May 1st, the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers to stop using the popular line of weight loss products. The agency had reported receiving 23 reports of adverse health effects in Hydroxycut users, including one death and one person who required a liver transplant. Other problems reported included heart problems and a type of muscle damage that could lead to kidney failure.
• The majority of the lymphomas and leukemias observed appeared to have developed in rats suffering from inflammatory changes in the lungs, which is characteristic for chronic respiratory disease. In accordance with the previous view of the AFC Panel, these changes were not considered to be related to the treatment with aspartame.
• The increase in incidence of mammary carcinoma is not considered indicative of a carcinogenic potential of aspartame since the incidence of mammary tumours in female rats is rather high and varies considerably between carcinogenicity studies. The Panel also noted that an increased incidence of mammary carcinomas was not reported in the previous ERF study with aspartame which used much higher doses of the compound.
Overall, the Panel concluded, on the basis of all the evidence currently available including the last published ERF study that there is no indication of any genotoxic or carcinogenic potential of aspartame...
Certainly there are indications that aspartame might be dangerous to health, whether the added tumors are caused by aspartame directly or by some secondary mechanism.
Just for the sake of argument - what would be wrong with recommending that human studies on aspartame be performed ... to compare the health of aspartame consumers with that of people who don't touch the stuff.
I predict that such a study would lead to some interesting new insights.
MediSin awarded four National Awards
A Medisin is a medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, environmental or commercial sin, any medical application that promotes anti-life, violates or alters the natural healing state of the body. All foods that are laced with chemicals, genetically altered, or grown in a laboratory are Medisins. These products cause long term chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer due to the molecular structure of the body’s cells being altered. For example, Vioxx and Celebrex are considered medisins because they deplete the endogenous production one of the most important essentials of the heart’s cell, co-enzyme Q10.
Ritalin, Zoloft and Prozac are medisins, though they have become the prescription of choice for “hyperactivity,” ADHD and depression these medications create mental havoc which disturbs the natural balance of the brain’s cellular activity. Any application that leaves toxic side effects within the body or has taxed the body of vital nutrients is a medical sin.
Alaska: Psych Rights Exposes Massive Medicaid Fraud (PDF)
Extrapolating from Alaska Medicaid Claims, PsychRights calculates over $2 Billion in fraudulent claims are being paid nationally every year for drug treatments Congress has explicitly prohibited, and it is probably well over $4.5 Billion, based on the total amount paid by Medicaid. Stating the carnage caused by the practice will be "recognized as the largest iatrogenic (doctor caused) public health disaster in history," PsychRights analogized the situation, "to our current economic debacle caused by unrestrained Wall Street greed," but noted, it is much worse, " because children's and youth's future, health, and even lives, have been sacrificed and continue to be sacrificed on the altar of corporate profits."
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) Drugs: More Risks Than Benefits? (PDF) Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons
At most 30% of patients receive a benefit from SSRIs beyond the large placebo effect in certain mental conditions, especially depression, according to a recent meta-analysis of published trials.
An equally recent meta-analysis of all SSRI trials submitted to the FDA showed a small benefit for the severely depressed patients only. Many early unpublished trials did not show any benefit.
Adverse effects are common, occurring in up to 75% of subjects. Severe adverse effects may be underreported.
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is under investigation by Senator Charles Grassley, and although NAMI has a grass roots tinge, it is heavily pharma funded.
A comment from Vince Boehm:
I believe that NAMI's executive director, Michael Fitzpatrick, is right on the 56% of budget figure in the article below, if you only consider the direct contributions to NAMI proper.
Nami is actually three separate nonprofit corporations; NAMI, NAMI Research Institute, and the Treatment Advocacy Center. The NAMI Research Institute, and the Treatment Advocacy Center are separately funded, mostly through private foundations.
The sums here exceed their NAMI parent's budget by a huge amount.
Surely, these might just be a group of wealthy families with big hearts and pocket books to match.
But, one really has to wonder?
What's Behind the Epidemic of Family-Killings? Could it Be Anti-Depressants?
No, behind the spate of family homicides is not just the economy, job stress and failing marriages, but a government that approved a cohort of psychoactive drugs with proven homicidal and suicidal side effects. Blockbuster antidepressants and anti-psychotics that are kept on the market despite the blood baths they can cause so drug companies can get their patent's worth.
And it's a government that allows unlimited weapon arsenals -- including military and assault-style weapons -- in the hands of everyone, including the unbalanced on "depression" drugs, only to act surprised when another entire family -- everyone who was home -- is killed.
Merck published fake “peer-reviewed” journal The Scientist has reported that, yes, it’s true, Merck cooked up a phony, but real sounding, peer reviewed journal and published favorably looking data for its products in them. Merck paid Elsevier to publish such a tome, which neither appears in MEDLINE or has a website, according to The Scientist.
Companies look to Swine Flu to drive profits
Manufacturers of antiviral drugs, companies gearing up to produce a vaccine, and those firms that make and sell low-tech products like hand-sanitizer and face-masks are turning profits in an otherwise skittish and down market.
"If this becomes a major pandemic, no one over the long-term will profit. No one makes money if everyone gets sick. In the short term, however, there are a couple of drugs that the CDC says could potentially treat swine flu and those companies are worth watching in the short term," said Dr. Mark Schoenebaum, a physician turned biotechnology analyst for Deutsche Bank.
Curbing the pill pushers
Thanks to Vermont's drug marketing disclosure law, we now know that some 78 drug makers spent $2,935,248 in the 2008 fiscal year on consulting and speaker fees, travel expenses and gifts and food to doctors, hospitals, colleges and other prescribers.
We know that Eli Lilly was the top spender in Vermont and that two of their products, Strattera (used for ADHD) and Cymbalta (used for depression, neuropathic pain and anxiety disorder), are the top two most-marketed drugs.
We know that psychiatry was the top specialty receiving drug marketing money - $479,306 - and that the average per recipient was $43,573.
Listening to Madness
(Newsweek) Why some mentally ill patients are rejecting their medication and making the case for 'mad pride.'
Embracing "mental diversity" is one thing, but questioning the need for medication in today's pill-popping world is controversial—and there have been instances in which those who experience mental extremes harm themselves or others. Icaristas argue that some of the severely mentally ill may avoid taking medication, because for some the drugs don't seem to help, yet produce difficult side effects. And while some side effects like cognitive impairment are surely debilitating, others are more subtle, such as the vague feeling that people are not themselves.
How I became an HIV Skeptic
I got into Rethinking because I’d long been interested in trying to understand how science works, especially how unorthodox views, minority views, contribute to the progress of science. That background gave me this tremendous advantage: I already knew, before I’d read anything about HIV or AIDS, that a long-standing scientific theory can be quite wrong, even when “everybody” accepts it. I knew that not only in general, in principle, but because I’d come across all sorts of examples, not just the story of Galileo that everyone has heard of but many more, right down to recent years when a Nobel Prize was given for the discovery that most ulcers are caused by bacteria, a discovery that the mainstream had pooh-poohed for a couple of decades.
'Green' lightbulbs poison workers
Large numbers of Chinese workers have been poisoned by mercury, which forms part of the compact fluorescent lightbulbs. A surge in foreign demand, set off by a European Union directive making these bulbs compulsory within three years, has also led to the reopening of mercury mines that have ruined the environment.
Doctors, regulators, lawyers and courts in China - which supplies two thirds of the compact fluorescent bulbs sold in Britain - are increasingly alert to the potential impacts on public health of an industry that promotes itself as a friend of the earth but depends on highly toxic mercury.
How a Circulation Charge Can Help Save and Transform Global Finance
Today, as members of the G20 and architects of the global Bretton Woods II convene to consider new financial instruments for building the 21st century economy, a circulation charge should be at the top of their list. A validation fee of this sort addresses the essential design flaws of the current economy that make it utterly impossible to reconcile finance with environmental sustainability and the alleviation of poverty. These flaws include compulsive exponential economic growth in a world of finite resources, the myopic discounting of the future and a regressive redistribution of wealth into the hands of the world’s wealthiest via the interest on money.
A circulation charge effectively goes to the root of these problems by changing the qualitative nature of how we hold money. It inherently shifts financial thinking towards longer time frames. It creates a natural incentive to lend money without the need for interest, which would mitigate compulsive exponential growth, lessen the costs associated with borrowing and investment and reduce social disparities. It is precisely by shifting these central financial dynamics that markets can naturally begin reversing the inequalities between the rich and poor, facilitate investments in alternative energy infrastructure and create a more resilient financial system.
An Inconvenient Film Coming Soon
Alternating credible skeptics with arresting imagery, the film makes clear that the science, far from being settled, has been comprehensively misrepresented by the likes of NASA’s James Hansen, who is to Al Gore and climatology what Trofim Lysenko was to Joseph Stalin and agronomy.
The missing sunspots: Is this the big chill?
Could the Sun play a greater role in recent climate change than has been believed? Climatologists had dismissed the idea and some solar scientists have been reticent about it because of its connections with those who those who deny climate change. But now the speculation has grown louder because of what is happening to our Sun. No living scientist has seen it behave this way. There are no sunspots.
