A Very Stimulating Online Conference
CategoriesI have been spendiing lots of time the last few days on the online conference on Online Social Networks. One conversation -- Cafe 10 -- has boggled my mind. I'm talking (conferencing) with Charles Cameron and Kent Bye about (a) ways to model nonlinear complex situations and (b) how widely distributed "citizen journalists" could fill out a collective creation like Wikipedia -- except instead of being an encyclopedia it would be an increasingly detailed and balanced picture of every news event and every social issue, accessible by anyone. It would provide an alternative to both the "he said/ she said" pseudo-objectivity of mainstream journalism AND the subjective partisan rants of many bloggers and pundits -- an open-source, participatory multiple-viewpoint analysis of the pros and cons of everything political, designed to help people judge what was likely most true. It fits in well with citizen deliberation.... If you'd like to join us, the conference is $50 and will remain online after it is done...
